The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, confirmed that the president of the United States, Donald Trump, proposed the participation of American troops in Mexico to combat drug trafficking. Sheinbaum Pardo responded to reports shared by the Wall Street Journal during the inauguration of the University for the Well-being Benito Juárez in the Ecological Park Lake of Texcoco.
In her statements, Sheinbaum Pardo mentioned that Trump proposed the entry of the U.S. Army to help in the fight against drug trafficking, but clarified that, while the topic was discussed, it was not exactly as reported by the WSJ. The president emphasized that she rejected Trump’s proposal, stating that Mexico's sovereignty is inviolable and that, although she is open to collaboration and coordination, sovereignty is not up for discussion.
Additionally, Sheinbaum Pardo highlighted the importance of preventing and stopping the influx of weapons from the United States, requesting support in this regard. She pointed out that Trump recently issued an order to strengthen controls and prevent weapons from entering Mexico, which she considered a form of positive cooperation. The president emphasized that collaboration between nations is possible, but always respecting the sovereignty of each country.
